The regulator's crusade to cleanse the claims handling process has begun, with insurers being quizzed on their conduct.
The Financial Services Authority has written to 40 insurers, enclosing a questionnaire on their claims handling processes that must be completed and returned to Canary Wharf by 12 December - which is less than two weeks away.
Compliance visits
Some firms will also be subject to compliance visits in the new year, although a lot fewer insurers will form that sample group. Those chosen for both the questionnaire and office inspections were selected to create a reasonable cross-section of the industry.
A report will be produced in March 2006, outlining the results of the investigation and what steps the industry must undertake to ensure full compliance.
