Claims timescales and expenses have been dramatically reduced in Ireland with the introduction of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board, according to insurer AIG.
Michael Leahy, claims director of AIG Ireland, said: "The idea was to deal with personal injury before any solicitors were involved in the procedure. This has unclogged the courts and very few personal injury cases are going into the system."
Claimants must write to the PIAB informing it of the claim, the claimant and the defendant. They then have 90 days to decide whether they want to go through the PIAB process - during which time claims can also be settled.
It costs insurers EUR850 (GBP581) for the adjudication and EUR150 for a medical report, and there is a EUR50 charge for the claimant. The PIAB then has nine months to adjudicate, using a ...
