The UK should focus its efforts on removing the huge costs related to preparation and negotiation on lower value claims from the personal injury system, insisted Ashton West, chief executive of the Motor Insurers' Bureau.

"It is a myth to say that a GBP1500 claim is complex. Why can't we find a way of taking big chunks out of the process, such as the negotiations step, and have an agreed tariff for small value RTA claims?" he asked.
