Alistair Darling, the Minister for Transport, has called on businesses to make use of innovative schemes, such as pay-as-you-go insurance, to improve the competitiveness and productivity of UK businesses.
Speaking at the annual conference of the Confederation of British Industry, he said: "We have to start using technology that will be commonplace in 10 years' time to cut congestion. We need to build on schemes such as pay-as-you-go insurance and satellite navigation."
Meanwhile, Gordon Brown was applauded and criticised in equal measure over his speech. The Federation of Small Businesses commended the Chancellor of the Exchequer's decision to make the Office for National Statistics independent of government.
