SEOUL, Dec 1 Asia Pulse - South Korea's exports reached an all-time monthly high of US$26.07 billion in November thanks to strong overseas demand for machinery, car parts, steel and petrochemicals, the government said Thursday.
Last month's customs-cleared exports surged 13 per cent from a year earlier, while imports climbed 17.9 per cent to $23.94 billion, also a monthly record, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said.
South Korea thus recorded a trade surplus of $2.13 billion in November, with its cumulative trade surplus in the first 11 months reaching $22.34 billion.
"The record increase is noteworthy since it is being fueled by improvements in productivity and competitiveness as well as better marketing strategies," said Shin Dong-sik, head of the ministry's trade policy bureau.
