BUSINESS TIMES:
- Malaysia's economy beat market expectations in the third quarter with gross domestic product (GDP) growing 5.3 per cent, well on track to end the year with an expansion of between 5 per cent and 6 per cent.
- Idris Jala starts work as Malaysia Airlines new boss tomorrow and he has the unenviable task of turning around a national carrier that has lost more than RM600 million in the first six months of this year.
- Bank Negara Malaysia has raised its benchmark interest rate by 30 basis points to 3 per cent, primarily to keep inflation in check.
- Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) the concessionaire for Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya has identified 10 potential viable schemes to overcome the shortfall of water supply which is expected to happen between 2007 and 2011, said executive chairman Tan Sri Dr Rozali Ismail.
- Pantai Holdings Bhd, a hospital operator, plans to spend some RM50 million to build new medical centres and upgrade existing ones to tap the medical tourism segment.
