DAVAO CITY, Dec 1 Asia Pulse - Labor officials here believe that prospects for a wage increase in 2006 depends on whether the economy continues to expand in the fourth quarter.
Philippine Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 11 Director Gloria Tango said this amid demands from various labor groups in Southern Mindanao for a hike in their daily wages.
However, Tango said there is no petition for salary increase has yet been filed with the Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board, which she chairs.
Tango said the wage board could only hope that the economy continues to grow despite the implementation of the reformed valued added tax (RVAT).
"What is being considered are the non-wage benefits such as exemption from income tax and lowering the cost of basic commodities," Tango said.
