An executive briefcase? No. A minute bag that pops out of a massive bag at a moment's notice? No. If there's one thing that women want now, it's a singular, stunning, statement bag that multitasks more than they do.

"My bag serves as a traveling office, so it's big-either Fendi or Bottega Veneta," says DD Allen (54, architect/interior designer, New York). "I've bought a gold metallic Fendi for this year."

"A large handbag is essential to get me from day to night," says Maureen Case (49, cosmetics president, New York). Case-like many professional women-is seeking a scaled-up version of what was once the totem of downtown cool: the classic Balenciaga bag. "It's big enough to take my files and my laptop," says Kelli Kickerillo (24, real estate VP, Houston), who joined the chorus singing Balenciaga's praises.
