Rhiannon Kubicka (left) doesn't exactly stock her closet; she casts it. In terms of fact, Kubicka's workwear revolves around Prada, Derek Lam, and Louis Vuitton. But in her mind's eye, she sees herself dressing as Charlotte Rampling, Julie Christie, or Catherine Deneuve. "I love they way they looked in their movies from the sixties and seventies," she says. "It was chic, elegant, sexy, mischievous, mysterious, and serious. It was totally inspiring."
Once, all a professional woman wanted to do was exude a cool confidence, equal parts power and polish. Now many are trying to conjure a more playful or creative persona when they head off to the office. "I need to have a wardrobe that's inspiring to me," says Kubicka, "but certainly not distracting to others. I want to feel that some of my passion for life is shown by what I wear."
