Just when you thought the skirt suit's stock had sunk to an all-time low, here it is rising, rising again. "When I worked at IBM's Pension Fund," says Marianna Olszewski (right), who favors suits from Chanel, Ralph Lauren, and Valentino, "the dress code was navy-blue skirt suits and white shirts. Now in finance, women can express their individuality." And, strangely, it's the skirt suit that's allowing them to do just that.
Not just any old suit, though. The skirt suit appealed to the women in our survey only if it represented a sound investment that could be personalized in some way.
