Nov. 26--Hurricane Wilma not only damaged roofs and skyscraper windows and left several hundred people homeless, it also disrupted efforts by foreign nationals to secure work visas.
The lack of electricity for several days, even weeks, forced many immigration attorneys in South Florida to miss critical filing deadlines seeking labor certification for foreign worker visas. The reason: The Department of Labor can process certification petitions more efficiently if they are filed electronically, according to the attorneys.
