BFI Canada Income Fund has returned to its Texas roots by acquiring a Fort Worth-based waste management company. Toronto-based BFI Canada, which is also in the trash collection business, completed its $886 billion purchase of IESI Corporation on January 21.
In the deal, BFI Canada indirectly acquired all of IESI's common stock, while IESI's equity investors took a 36 percent indirect stake in BFI Canada. Thayer Capital Partners, a Washington, D.C.--based private equity firm that was IESI's largest shareholder, now holds a 21 percent stake in BFI Canada.
