Many investors learned this year that health care stocks were good medicine for a portfolio.
At least through the first three quarters of the year, the sector was a market leader, even while energy and building stocks overshadowed its performance.
In that period, medical stocks outperformed defense, semiconductor and new issues. The health arena also beat out small-cap stocks and the IBD New America Index, which tracks companies profiled in that section of IBD.
