We may be taking a large intuitive leap here, but things seem a bit different since the last time we talked. The only thing that really hasn't changed is the profile of the NBA patron whom David Stern is obligated to satisfy. Stern's task becomes more difficult with each passing season because the average NBA ticket buyer is 46, white, male, married, has children and is getting crankier all the time because his disposable income is dwindling.

Unless you've been living on Alpha Centauri, you may have noticed a widening chasm between that average fan and Stern's employees, most of whom are rich and black. That disconnect has frustrated the commish in recent years ...
