BOSTON (MarketWatch) - President Bush has unveiled a $7.1 billion federal plan to help shore up the nation's preparedness in case there is a pandemic of the deadly avian flu.
In a speech given Tuesday morning at the National Institutes of Health, Bush said he was asking Congress for $7.1 billion in emergency funding for a comprehensive flu preparedness plan, which includes a major stockpiling of drugs and vaccines.
The Senate has already approved $8 billion to be spent on flu preparedness. The measure moves on to the House of Representatives.
