BOX-OFFICE hit 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' will unwrap its own golden ticket at this year's Irish Film and Television Awards - it has been named favourite film of the year by cinemagoers.
The accolade for director Tim Burton's remake of the classic tale means the film could sweep the boards at the awards ceremony at the RDS on Saturday night.
Veteran film and television actor David Kelly, who plays Grandpa Joe in the movie, is set to receive a lifetime achievement award at the gala ceremony, while Johnny Depp, who plays Willy Wonka, is up for the best actor award.
The film was last night named as people's top movie choice in the Jameson Best International Film Award category, beating off tough competition from contenders 'Crash', 'Batman Begins' and 'Sin City'.
Up to 10,000 cinemagoers voted for their favourite movie, , with 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' the big favourite.
'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', which had a sweet opening at the Irish box office, taking 2.1m in its first week, is based on the 1966 Roald Dahl book of the same name.
