It seems we have never been as unhealthy. If the recent statistics are correct, then one out of every two women and one in every five children in the country is overweight.
Up-to-date Department of Health figures reporting that almost half of Irish people are either overweight and with a 30% increase in obesity recorded in the four years to 2004, the long-term prognosis looks ominous. Experts blame the abandonment of the three-meals-a-day culture for a convenience and junk-food diet - high fat, low fibre foods - to suit schedules that barely permit lunch breaks.
