Sir - The way in which resources are allocated to primary schools to deal with special educational needs has been changed during the course of 2005.
Instead of applying for resources, schools are now accorded them automatically, based on the number of pupils in the school.
This system is not without its merits, but it has thrown up an anomaly which flies in the face of the commitment of the Minister for Education and Science, Mary Hanafin, to target educational disadvantage.
The anomaly is the effect the new system is having in small disadvantaged schools.
