Business Day is to introduce a weekend edition in the first quarter of next year, the company has announced.

The paper's publisher, BDFM, a joint venture between JSE-listed media group Johnnic Communications and the UK's Pearson, last Friday approved the newspaper's launch. It will be aimed mainly at Johannesburg readers.

BDFM MD Mzi Malunga said the aim was to follow Business Day's readers into their weekend. The paper, to be called The Weekender, will sell on Saturdays and Sundays.
