NEW YORK, Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Ruth Patkin, a creative women's marketing/communications strategist and founder of Cowgirl Media, has joined Barnard College as Director of Communications in the Office of Public Affairs. Suzanne Trimel, Barnard Vice President for Public Affairs, announced the appointment as part of her plan to enhance the College's public image for the 21st century.
As Director of Communications, Patkin will work closely with Trimel to develop strategic initiatives that capture and communicate Barnard's unique core values, increase the College's visibility and appeal among target audiences, and focus media attention on its countless compelling stories.
Patkin joins Barnard from Cowgirl Media, a strategic marketing and communications company specializing in promoting women's issues, organizations, and brands; as the company's founder and director, she also spun-off a grassroots women's professional and social action network. Notable Cowgirl Media projects included: promoting the 2005 Wings Women of Discovery Awards, recognizing five pioneering women explorers/scientists from around the world; piloting Smart Women Vote 2004, a national, nonpartisan voter rights and registration initiative in partnership with the League of Women Voters; and producing the 2001 New York City premiere of the award-winning feature film "Kandahar," to benefit Afghan women's refugee relief. Clients ranged from nonprofit organizations Safe Horizon, the 92nd Street Y, and George Washington University to for-profit companies Anne Klein, Estee Lauder, and Working Woman magazine.
