Bach, J.S.: Six Suites for Solo Cello. Sergei Istomin, cello. Recorded in 1997, at Saint John's Anglican Church, Elora, Ontario. Engineer: probably Clive Allen. 131+ minutes (2-disc set). Analekta 3114.

To paraphrase information contained in the booklet that comes with this recording, the Six Suites were composed during Bach's stay in Cothen between 1717 and 1723, and form part of the body of instrumental music written by him during those years. These included the Brandenburg Concertos, Orchestral Overtures, Inventions, and various sonatas and partitas for solo instruments, particularly the violin.
