Moves to speed up the production of a pandemic flu vaccine and make sure supplies meet demand were agreed by international health ministers yesterday.

UK Health Minister Rosie Winterton met with counterparts in Rome to discuss the international response to threats such as a flu pandemic and acts of terrorism.

Ms Winterton said they agreed to share information and expertise to speed up the development and production of a pandemic flu vaccine, which cannot be created until the exact strain in an outbreak is known.

The ministers also agreed to work together to boost global capacity for a pandemic flu jab.
