Exercise High

W

orking out may decrease symptoms of depression, according to a study in ?the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. Among mildly to moderately depressed people who werenit receiving treatment, two groups did aerobic exercise of medium intensity three or five days weekly, two others did lower-intensity exercise three or five days weekly, and one stretched 15 to 20 minutes three days weekly. After 12 weeks, both medium-intensity groups reported a 47 percent decline in symptoms. The other groups showed the same change as a placebo. The right dose of exercise seems to have the same effect as an antidepressant in mildly to moderately depressed people,I says study author Madhukar Trivedi of the University ?of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He cautions that all treatments for depression should be done under the guidance of a physician.
