How to eat better while traveling
By Jackie Keller

Eating healthfully on the go takes creativity. Youive got obstacles everywhere, from greasy fast food to unsavory airplane snacks, not to mention your own vacation mentality. But with a little planning, you can avoid swallowing a fistful of Cheetos and calling it a meal. Plus, youill enjoy the trip much more if you return home wearing the same size jeans as before.
i Pack on the fly. The best way to ensure you donit wind up in the line at Sbarro is to spend an extra five minutes packing a satisfying, low-fat meal. My standby is a whole-wheat wrap with lean protein (turkey, reduced-fat cheese, or slivered almonds), vegetables (diced tomatoes or salsa), and low-fat ginger dressing. If you want to sidestep carbs, wrap the sandwich in a dried seaweed sheet (sold at any Asian grocery). For variety, put the mix over brown rice or greens. Then store everything in a sturdy plastic container before takeoff.
i Check your body clock. Travel throws off your timing even if youire not changing time zones, so eat when youire hungry, not when your watch says you should be hungry. While en route, I tell my clients to rate their hunger on a scale of one (starving) to ten (full) and to eat when they reach two or three, stopping at eight.
