Essentially, a smartphone combines the functions of a mobile phone with a personal digital assistant (PDA), which can generally do things like manage appointments, contacts and to-do lists as well as word processing and spreadsheets. To be truly smart, it needs to incorporate these two functions without diminishing either. As well as all this, a smartphone needs to be able to connect to the internet.
The Sept/Oct 2005 issue of Computer CHOICE magazine checked out 10 models: the MOTOROLA A1000, NOKIA 7710, 9300, 6630, 6670 and 7610, PALMONE Treo 650, PANASONIC X700 and SONY ERICSSON P910i and S700i.
