Workout Motivation
E
xercise feels goodoand according to two British studies of 455 men and women, thinking about how bad it would feel to skip a workout is a strong motivator. In one study, Charles Abraham of the University of Sussex and Paschal Sheeran of the University of Sheffield asked 70 people: How many times do you intend to exercise in the next two weeks?I They also had them rate on a scale of one (definitely yes) to eight (definitely no), Would you regret it if you did not exercise in the next two weeks?I About half the group answered the questions in this order, and the others answered the regret question first. Among those who dwelled first on their anticipated remorse about being sedentary, intentions to exercise were 68 percent greater. Although the study authors didnit track anyoneis subsequent workouts, they believe those who didnit consider their future regret would be less likely to follow through, citing research showing that if an intention to act is not present, action is very unlikely.I
