schmidt's plateau: "I haven't really hit a plateau yet, probably because I have a lot more weight to lose than the other girls."
expert advice: Physician Howard Shapiro gave Schmidt a series of questions to ask if she sees her weight loss slowing: "What am I doing differently ?now? Am I exercising as much? Am I careful with my food choices, or am I slipping into old habits?" As ?for her workouts, "When a person stops losing weight, she should consider that she may be exercising too hard," says trainer Shawna Cordell of Shawna Cordell Fitness. "I suggested ?that Kate wear a heart-rate monitor to make sure she stays in the fat-burning range. Also, she can double her workouts-starting and ending her days with cardio will keep her metabolism stimulated throughout the day."
breaking through: "I know that weight loss is ?slow and not always steady," Schmidt says. "But ?if I hit a plateau, I'm not worried I'll lose focus."
