How to go to a bar alone
By Amy Sacco
Sacco is the owner of New York City nightclubs Bungalow 8 and Lot 61.
If there is any stigma left about a woman going to a bar alone, then let's put that to rest right now. You're out shopping and decide you'd like a glass of wine before your massage -- where's the scandal in that? Like everything else in life, the key to having a cocktail on your own is confidence.
* Location matters. A quick solo drink is a great way to check out a hot restaurant or new boutique hotel. Just stay away from upscale business hotels where you might be mistaken for a hooker. And choose a place with a long bar to avoid getting wedged in with people on every side of you.
* Repeat yourself. If you're not used to going it alone, try a place that you regularly visit with friends. Or go in the afternoon, when things are quiet, and you'll see it's not that intimidating.
