hen my hair started to fall outosuddenly, inconveniently, at a friendis dinner partyoI hadnit done anything at all to prepare.

I had raised a hand to tuck my bangs behind my ear, a gesture I made a dozen times a day. This time, the bangs came away in my hand. I was left clutching an enormous hank of my own hair. I had no idea where to put it. In my napkin? On the side of my plate? Where was Miss Manners when I needed her?
