MALAYSIAN GOVT TO PUSH USE OF NATURAL GAS IN TRANSPORT SECTOR
KUALA LUMPUR - An industry-wide utilisation of natural gas will be proposed in the Malaysian public transport sector, especially buses and taxis, as part of the government's effort to create a cleaner environment.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Bernard Dompok said Tuesday, before the system could be implemented, several factors should be considered, such as the cost to convert existing vehicles into gas system and the limited number of natural gas vehicle (NGV) refuelling stations.
SHOWA SHELL ENJOYS 600 per cent NET PROFIT JUMP ON ACCOUNTING CHANGE
TOKYO - Showa Shell Sekiyu KK (TSE:5002) announced Tuesday that consolidated net profit for the year ended December soared almost 600 per cent to just under 12.5 billion yen, mainly due to a change in the valuation method for oil product inventory.
Operating profit grew 190 per cent to about 37.7 billion yen (US$324 million). While the company could not pass on all the increase in crude oil prices to consumers, the change in inventory valuation method from last-in, first-out to the average-cost method reduced the cost of goods sold by 17.1 billion...
