Marijuana Use: Its Health Effects
Marijuana smoke contains many of the same respiratory irritants found in tobacco smoke. In addition, it contains other substances not found in tobacco smoke, such as delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and other compounds, some of which are irritating to the lung.
There are more than 30,000 studies that document the irritant and disease-producing effects of tobacco smoke on the lungs and other parts of the body. Habitual marijuana smoking may be harmful in the same way.
