Nov. 10--Question: Which New York City banks have the best CD rates?
Answer: None of them.
If you invest your money in certificates of deposit, do yourself a favor and shop around for rates -- around the country, not just around town.
Many people still get their CDs at the branch where they keep their checking accounts -- even if they get low interest rates in return.
"It's the convenience factor -- they want it all in one branch," said Laura Bruce of Bankrate.com, which tracks interest rates for CDs, money market accounts, mortgages, credit cards and car loans.
At some city banks, the rates aren't just low, they're rock-bottom.
