A RECENT GOVERNMENT publication, Background to the Budget, says road construction has improved and a review of past performance shows achievement rates of 74 and 84 per cent in 2000/1 and 2001/2 respectively.
The government has put much emphasis on road infrastructure which comprises national, district and community access roads.
Thousands of kilometres of have either been rehabilitated or constructed. Uganda's entire road network consists of about 60,000km, which includes about 10,000km of the nationa lroad network, 30,000km of community access routes and 2,800km of urban roads.
Works Minister, John Nasasira, says the improvement of the road network has had a positive effect on the national economy over the last 17 years with annual GDP growth rates recorded at about six per cent on average.
