Beijing, Nov 11 (PTI) Amid reports of the fourth outbreak of bird flu in northeast China, the government has appealed to 800 million farmers, urging them to cooperate in combating the "grave" challenge facing the nation.

The latest bird flu outbreak on Sunday killed 300 chickens in Beining, a village near Jinzhou, a city in Liaoning province, the Agriculture Ministry said in a report to the Paris-based International Organisation for Animal Health.

Following the outbreak, local officials destroyed 2.5 million poultry to contain the deadly H5N1 virus.
