Underworld don Abu Salem, who was extradited from Portugal late on Thursday night, is now being held in custody in Mumbai.

He was brought to India along with his girlfriend Monica Bedi by a team of 20 CBI and police officials in a special plane, ending a 10-year long battle to bring him to justice.

Both were detained in 2002 in Sharjah, but the Indian police failed to extradite them.

Abu Salem faces trial in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts that killed 257 people as well as several other crimes. Bedi was extradited on charges of passport forgery.
