When the NHL raises the curtain on the 2002-03 season next week, several things are sure to occur. You can expect a daily progress report on how the crackdown on obstruction and interference is sitting with the players, coaches and general managers. The new hurry-up faceoff will speed up the games--and catch a player or two off guard. Those safety nets hanging at the ends of each rink to protect fans from flying pucks will hatch more than a few complaints from fans and television executives.
But once the season skates by the first two or three weeks, more compelling plots and questions will emerge.
