As a youth, Richard Childress Racing's Kirk Almquist raced street stocks in southern California and Arizona, and pumped gas at a local service station in the desert town of Blythe, Calif. Almquist took his budding automotive passion to the next level in San Diego, where he worked as a mechanic and earned an automotive engineering degree at Cuyamaca College.
