They came, they raced, they floundered.

That's what happened to three teams that sought quick fixes by changing drivers in 2002.

Certainly, a lot of thought goes into selecting the right "shoe." Although a driver must pass the sponsor test, race-day performance is the owner's No. 1 goal.

Ray Evernham, Chip Ganassi and Larry McClure traded up for more seasoned drivers--Jeremy Mayfield, Jimmy Spencer and Mike Skinner--but the results aren't significantly better than they were a year ago.
