If new Brewers general manager Doug Melvin and club president Ulice Payne Jr. aren't the best thing to happen to Milwaukee since Laverne and Shirley, they certainly will be an improvement over the failed comedy team of Dean and Wendy.

That would be former G.M. Dean Taylor, architect of the team's first 100-loss season, and club president Wendy Selig-Prieb, daughter of you-know-who. A clean sweep was necessary with attendance down 841,888, the largest decline in the majors. Selig-Prieb indicated that she stepped aside to spend more time with her 4-year-old daughter, but the team's board of directors surely was growing antsy.
