Never mind that the Cowboys sport a cast inferior to the World Champion Ravens of Season 1's Hard Knocks and haven't won in four years. They'll light up Wednesday nights. Last July's premiere opened at the Ravens' Best Western; Cowboys commenced camp in San Antonio with 50,000 fans, plus cheerleaders. Tex Schramm and Cecil B. DeMille would be proud.
HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg has metallic-blue stars in his eyes. "Last year, we caught lightning in a bottle; the final episode had a 4.9 rating," he says. "The story-lines may be better this time. You've still got Jerry and Emmitt Smith, plus the Oklahoma rookie star (Roy Williams) and a bunch of guys desperate to make the team. Pure soap opera."
