The seeds of this debate barely have been planted inside the Yankees' clubhouse. Even among the circles of intense, demanding fans, you don't hear it discussed very often. But this issue is alive, for there has been too much seen in too short a time for it not to take ground: Will Alfonso Soriano--two or three years from now, maybe even sooner--surpass shortstop Derek Jeter as the Yankees' best player?
The answer, of course, is we don't know yet. But to merely ask the question--when Soriano has yet to compile 1,000 major league plate appearances, when he has earned zero World Series rings to Jeter's four in six years--is a tribute to what Soriano has done so far. ...
