When a team wins the Super Bowl, there usually isn't much space for rookie free agents on the roster. Such is the case for the Patriots, who boast a veteran team that has greatly improved depth at almost every position. The spot that might be a little thin, however, is running back. That's where Walter Williams comes in.
Williams, a 2001 rookie free agent out of Grambling who spent last season on injured reserve, has been one of the surprise players this summer at the Patriots' training camp. The coaches love his speed and receiving abilities. They also see vast potential in a back who played only one season of college ball. The Patriots hope Williams' playmaking abilities make up for a slight lack of girth (6-0, 210).
