The man: when you think the man is holding you down, remember that you could be working for George Steinbrenner or Al Davis.

Sometimes the bad guys steal the show. Consider Heat Miser and Snow Miser, the animated siblings who sang and danced into our holiday seasons in the 1970s on the TV special The Year Without a Santa Claus. Many of us know the tune, can hum it a little, or perhaps sing some of the lyrics.

The Miser brothers stirred our emotions. It's the same way in sports, where the bad guys often are memorable, especially if they've been in our face as long as the cartoonish, meddling masterminds atop the Yankees and Raiders. George Steinbrenner and Al Davis are on everybody's Enemies List.

They are despised by fans and fellow owners. They alienate unilaterally, without prejudice or parochial preference. Even those who love the franchises micromanaged by Steinbrenner and Davis find reason to hold their noses at these two bombastic buffoons.

Though they work their evil ways differently, they have plenty in common. They share a birthday (July 4); both employ bar-hopping, sore-toed lefties (Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski, Yankees pitcher David Wells); and they share a place in the deep, dark recesses of our minds, right between the instinct to flush and the urge to curse. Not a pretty place. We love to hate Steinbrenner and Davis, and to prove it well let them sing it just like Heat Miser and Snow Miser. Cue the music ...

   They call me big spender
   Revenue I get
They haven't made me share, yet
   He's all set
   Thank you, New York!
