Here's another in DG's new "Trio" series of CDs, three-disc sets of reissued material of a very high order. In this case we have 227 minutes of Dvorak by one of the composer's most noted exponents, Rafael Kubelik. At mid price it's a heady combination.

Disc one consists of both collections of Slavonic Dances, opp. 46 and 72, sixteen dances in all. Disc two contains five overtures--"My Home," "Hustska," "Amid Nature," "Carnival," and "Othello"--plus the symphonic poem "The Water Goblin." Disc three gives us three more poems--"The Noonday Witch," "The Golden Spinning Wheel," and "The Wood Dove"--plus the Symphonic Variations on an Original Theme.
