I wanted to pass on the good news regarding a $ensible buy, having recently taken the plunge to SACD. I was skeptical for some time as I read about our little war between DVD-A and SACD, until reading an excited review in The Absolute Sound, one bored evening while at Borders. The review and the purchase are about the Sony NVP NS500V DVD/SACD/CD. Fortunately, Circuit City has SACDs on display or one would have to order on line just to test the machine. The price of this player was $179.99! (Sure, that contributed greatly to my altered skepticism). My intention was to purchase a decent-sounding, stand-alone CD player. I have the Sony DVP 700P, which I have been very pleased with, but not always with just CD playing. I love classical and blues/jazz and the 700p seemed never really involving enough. Although, in Progressive scan it is really beautiful to look at, which is the reason I bought it. But the 500V for about half its price is a wonder for music. In SACD mode, I have to tell you, it's terrific, no matter what you play. ...
