The funny bone ...
Boise State (1-0) at Arkansas (0-0): This is what happens, boys and girls, when football coaches try to become educators.
Arkie coach Houston Nutt--could there be a better last name for this story?--wanted to take his boys to the state prison for what he deemed an "educational exchange" before the NCAA nixed the idea. Seems Nutt wanted the prisoners to preach of their misfortune and how to stay clean and straight.
Meanwhile, two of Arkansas' best players--tailback Cedric Cobbs (marijuana possession, DUI) and safety Ken Hamlin (second DUI)--were arrested over the summer and pleaded guilty to charges yet received no suspension from Nutt. Apparendy, Nutt believes a few lifers in lockdown could straighten out his troubled players.
The lifers say they're reformed; Nutt says his players are reformed. The hell with the trip.
Boise State 27, Skid row 26.
Colorado State (2-0) at UCLA (0-0): This just in: Picky Manning, UCLA's star cornerback, reveals he was arrested last week for a felony assault he allegedly committed earlier this summer. I'm getting a little deja vu here ... This just in (circa November 2001): Cory Paus, UCLA's star quarterback, reveals he was arrested over the summer for driving while intoxicated.
