The Astros may have been swept in the World Series, but having played for that club, I was happy for two guys who finally got to the big dance.
Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio have played about as long together in Houston as Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker did in Detroit. Bagwell and Biggio probably are Hall of Famers, but in this World Series, one of them was there more in spirit than in body.
As a young player, Bagwell was my blueprint for success. He, Biggio and Ken Caminiti set a great example daily for a lot of good big-leaguers in the early 1990s.
Fast-forward to the battle Jeff had with Bobby Jenks in the eighth inning of Game 1, when Jenks struck Baggy out to end an Astros' threat. Jenks got him on a 100-mph fastball up in the strike zone.
