The Australian economy was moderating but its prospects remained strong, Treasurer Peter Costello said on Tuesday.
Commenting on the latest National Australia Bank business conditions index, which fell in October, Mr Costello said the economy was continuing to rebalance from being consumer driven to investment driven.
Mr Costello said despite the fall in the index, this had been from a high base while the index also showed the best export performance for some time.
