Solomon Islands Health Minister Benjamin Una has resigned after being charged over the alleged theft of money granted for a development project in his constituency.
Prime Minister Allan Kemakeza was in the process of appointing a new Health Minister following Una's resignation, the Solomons government communications unit said in a statement.
Una was arrested on October 18 following an investigation by a corruption task force made up of officers of Royal Solomon Islands Police and the Australian-led Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI).
The 49-year-old member for West Kwara'ae was charged with two counts of conversion in the Honiara Magistrates Court.
He entered no plea and was bailed to appear again on November 14.
The charges related to a funding application made in May by a West Kwara'ae constituent to a government-run microproject scheme.
