The ACTU says Australians' lives are under attack from the federal government's industrial relations laws as much as from terrorism.
But ACTU president Sharan Burrow would not comment directly on whether the government had used terrorism alerts and issues as a smokescreen for its contentious IR bill, as some have said.
"Terrorism is a serious issue," Ms Burrow told reporters.
"Clearly today we've seen some operations and all the issues in NSW and Victoria.
"We want people to pay attention to people's lives in the workplace equally.
"That's what I'm asking. That people's lives, the capacity of families to be certain about take-home pay, to be able to say 'No' to unfair overtime, to spend time with their families, to have redress, to be able to get access to the commission to prosecute unfairness ... these are serious issues."
